Description:
This medicine is an antidiarrhoeal. It helps to stop diarrhoea but does not treat the cause of it. It works by decreasing bowel contractions and discomfort associated with diarrhoea.

Purpose:
Diastop/Lomotil will help with your diarrhea. The following information is also useful in treating Diarrhoea:

If you have diarrhoea, drink plenty of water or electrolyte replacement solutions. This will rehydrate you and help you feel better sooner.
Report to your doctor if you have a fever associated with the diarrhoea.
Children and older people can easily become dehydrated from diarrhoea or vomiting. This is dangerous. Ensure plenty of fluids as above.
Never take more than the recommended dose of this medicine
When eating foods again, have plain foods like dry toast or mashed vegetables. Avoid dairy products and fatty or spicy food.

Active Ingredient:
This medicine contains diphenoxylate hydrochloride 2.5mg and atropine sulphate 25mcg and is gluten free.

Dosage:
May be taken with or without food. Adults: initially 2-4 tablets, then 2 tablets every 6-8 hours; max. 20 mg (diphenoxylate)/day (Eight Tablets). Reduce when diarrhoea controlled. Reassess after 48 hours.

Patient Information:
Possible Side Effects Include: Drowsiness, dizziness, headache, tiredness, dry mouth, throat, eyes, nose or genital areas, urinary problems, hot flushes.

Warning:
Do not use if you have diarrhoea caused by taking antibiotics, jaundice or an allergy to atropine.
Other conditions - these may affect the use of this medicine. Liver problems, ulcerative colitis, electrolyte (salt) imbalances, severe dehydration, Down's syndrome, kidney and liver disease.

Other medicines may affect the use of this medicine - MAOI antidepressants, CNS stimulants.

Other Information:
Food - May taken with or without food. Alcohol - you should limit intake. Driving/operating machinery - Avoid until you know how this medicine affects you. It may make you feel sleepy or dizzy. Pregnancy - Discuss with your doctor first. Breast feeding - This medicine passes into the breast milk. Check with us or your doctor . Avoid becoming dehydrated - drink plenty of water. This medicine should not be used in children under TWO years of age.
